Faculty are urged to contact their liaison librarian to discuss information needs in their field. ^ top Instructional ServicesThe library offers a wide variety of instructional services to support classroom teaching, including course integrated instruction, departmental workshops, library related assignments, new faculty orientation, and handouts on resources and research techniques. Working with the faculty member, the liaison librarian tailors instruction to the specific content of the class. Sessions are generally held in the library's electronic classroom (L118) which is equipped with computers, video projection, and Internet access. Contact the department's liaison librarian for more information or to arrange a session. ^ top Selection of Library MaterialsAcquisitions Department
Faculty may order library materials from department allocations administered by the Library Director, at the discretion of the department chair. Book, video, and music compact disk orders may be submitted online. You may also submit orders by campus mail to Library Acquisitions (CMB #1021). A list of each department's orders may be found on the report page. Requests for new journals can be submitted year round by faculty. New subscriptions will be considered during the Periodicals ADD/DROP Season which begins approximately January 15. Final decisions will be made by the end of Spring semester and the new titles will begin arriving the following calendar year. All new faculty in a tenure-track position may request a $2,000 New Faculty Fund from their liaison librarian. These monies are provided to help mend any collection inadequacies in your field of expertise in which you will be teaching. For more information about the acquisitions process, please review the FAQ page. ^ top Research SupportReference Service Reference Service provides help and guidance in using library resources effectively, in locating materials, in suggesting sources for further study and research, and in connecting users with information outside the library. You can also make an appointment with your liaison librarian for consultation on presentations, papers, or other research projects. Online Searching In addition to the electronic resources available through the research gateway, the library also offers computer based reference service through a vendor called DIALOG. Liaison librarians can remotely access hundreds of databases in a variety of disciplines and retrieve citations, abstracts, and in some cases full text materials, tailored to your topic. ^ top Interlibrary Loan & Document DeliveryInterlibrary Loan (ILL) Books, copies of periodical articles, government documents, and other materials needed for research may be borrowed from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Its purpose is to make a limited number of copies readily available to all members of a class. Most items are loaned for a two hour period, but overnight, three days, and one week are other options. Electronic reserve is also available for some items. Please note that it is the responsibility of the faculty to secure copyright permission if needed. To put an item on reserve for a course, faculty should bring the items to the Circulation desk and fill out a form specifying the conditions of the loan and other reserve information. It will be purchased with departmental funds. Interlibrary loans may not be placed on reserve. To find out what is on reserve, consult SIMON, the library's online catalog.
