Basic Elements of a Web Document
Understanding the basic layout of a Web document can help with the
evaluation process. By examining the header, footer,
and body of a home page, you should find information which will
critically analyze the source.
- Header
- Found at the top of the document
- Typically includes general information such as title, logo
or banner, a series of buttons or links to various locations,
and statement of purpose
- Body
- Follows the header and is often set off from the header by a
horizontal rule
- Often contains a table of contents or some introductory
links, and the basic text
- Footer
- Found at the end of a document
- Usually includes the author, affiliation, e-mail address,
copyright notice, an indication when the site was last updated, and
links to other parts of the site
