Depending on the popularity of the work, it can be challenging to research a particular musical composition. Some starting points are listed below.

Do a subject search in SIMON to find books about the composer and his/her
work. Search last name first.

Check for a critical edition of a score in
SIMON. You may find
background information about the work.

Search for a particular type or period of music.

Analysis Index Provides access to program notes and descriptions or analyses of musical compositions in books owned by the University of Tennessee Music Library.
