Archives Guidelines for Use

Access: Students, faculty, visiting scholars, and members of the public with research inquiries are welcome to consult the University Archives. Access to the archives collection is available through the Library Archives Web site. A librarian will be available to assist researchers and retrieve materials for study.

Library Contacts: Non-circulating private papers may be used by appointment only. Contact Elizabeth Knight eknight@ups.edu (253) 879-3646.

Individual Research: The UPS Archives and Special Collections are available for on-site use. Requests for information or materials received by mail, phone or electronically, will be handled as time, staff, and the fragility of the materials permit. Requests from UPS students, faculty and staff have priority. Because of the fragile or unique character of materials in the archives, great care must be taken in their use. For this reason, the collection is non-circulating and eating, drinking, and the use of pens in the archives are prohibited.

Class Use of the Collection: On-site class sessions in the archives are encouraged, although material may be made available for a teacher or student to use in the classroom if advance arrangements are made.

Photocopies: Photocopies may be made for the convenience of the individual user in support of research and teaching if the item can stand the stress. Whenever feasible, photocopies are made by the requestor under controlled circumstances.
